OK, so I know there are many digital painting tutorials, but not so many traditional tutorials, which is sad because traditional art is what made digital art!! So I thought it would be great to do a WIP/tutorial breakdown of my Aragorn painting, with a few hints and tips as to how I work. (Sorry about some of the spelling though!
Please understand this might be a tutorial but these are only guidelines showing how I do things, there are no rules when it comes to using acrylics, and that's the great thing about art!
Anyway, now, as promised I will tell you how to make a simple 'stay wet palette' for acrylic paints. So that your paints won't dry out and you won't have to re-mix colours if you want to take a break. How to make a stay wet palette.
Buy a box of ferrero rocher's (the chocolates) or something with a similar plastic box to this, [link]
and take out the tray and the chocolates, (guess where you put them!
Once it's a completely empty box, place a super absorbent cleaning cloth (something like this [link] [link]
) into the bottom tray, cut it to the right size if you have to.
Make sure it's slightly damp and then place a piece to tracing paper on the top, and your done!
It's great, just close the lid when you go to take a break and you can come back later and all your mixed paints are still wet! I even left mine overnight.
